This spring it's all about....Refreshing Whimsy
It all started last summer with a simple request: paint some Maryland blue crabs. The request came from Stella Maris, a long term care facility in Timonium Maryland that has thrown a fundraising crab feast and auction for over 30 years and with whom I’ve been volunteering for almost a decade. The crab feast and auction (every year in October, so if you’re in Maryland, definitely check out tickets) raises money for hospice care, and while the cause is somber the event is anything but.
I painted a series of three crabs for the silent auction and posted some photos on social media. Not only did the crab paintings do well at the auction, but other friends and acquaintances from Maryland started contacting me to paint them crabs too! I’ve had the pleasure of painting small 8-inch crabs, all the way up to 3-foot crabs, as well as creating some prints of those original crab paintings.
From there, I’ve painted all sorts of tiny cute animals: flamingos, pandas and butterflies. In some cases, I’ve paired them with tropical plants and leaves.
Spring is a time of renewal and refreshing. My favorite memories of growing up involve the smell of new mulch, pink tulips on bright green stalks and cool rain showers. It’s these fresh feelings that have inspired my Spring 2017 Collection (coming in late March) of tiny animals, brightly colored abstracts and new leaves. Some whimsy and joy to brighten your spring!
And how fitting that the Pantone color of the year is Greenery?! I’m in!!!
I can’t wait to share some behind the scenes inspiration and processes with you, and if you want to preorder a painting to meet your size/subject desires, shoot me an email.
