This season instead of heading to Target (I mean, I love Target too, my whole wardrobe is practically from there), think about buying your holiday presents, hostess gifts, Thanksgiving decorations and even kids toys from small businesses. I'm excited to support my fellow artisans and individuals who are creating from the heart, by shopping small this season.
It's funny how we moved away from mom and pop shops to big box retailers for convenience and cheaper pricing, but now it seems the tide of sentiment is turning back. Many consumers these days are happy to pay a little bit more to know where their goods come from and feel good about helping artists and makers rather than corporate bottom lines.
There's a flood of shop small initiatives, the biggest push coming from Amex, which is fantastic, and this season I'm going to add one more to your mix:
The Handmade Pop Up is a convenient way to shop small this weekend. All on one website you can find vendors creating art, bath products, jewelry, textiles, toys, and more.
The Handmade Pop Up, as the name implies, will only be live for a short period of time: Friday Nov 4 - Sunday Nov 6. All purchases will be mailed out by the end of the following week.
i'm excited to be a small part of this initiative, which is hosted by CYL Community and Makers Movement.
Happy Holidays!
